Silly Mistakes

It's been a hard day for me today. I had 4 courses, morning till noon. It was a really tiring day ever in a week. Actually I almost forgot to make a post on this blog. Lol :D For today, I'm gonna make a short review about  the recording that I listen to. I was listen 2 recordings, from easy and medium level. Still, the recording was taken from Randall's website.

From the easy one, I took Phone Messages. The speed of speakers' speech was not really fast and understandable. They used simple vocabulary. The problem came when the speaker spoke about numbers. I should repeated the recording  to make sure that I was correct. Went to the exercise, I got 80 percent.

And then, the medium level, I took Weekly Activities. Actually, I did understand the point of this recording. They were still use the basic vocabulary. And it just the speed of the speakers that increased. On the exercise, I got 60 percent and it was not shocking me. I made silly mistakes when answering the questions. I did not really read the questions before I chose the answer.

Well that's my review for this time. Not that much, but yeah... see ya!

Now I Know.

Hellowww! This morning, I tried to view Randall's website again. I choose one recording from the medium level. The tittle is A Bus Trip.
By the way, before I listen the recording, I was read the questions from the exercise.  And then I also read the options of the answer. After that, I started to listen the recording. For your information, I replayed the recording only for 2 times. That was quite good for my progress in listening. Yeay! At the first time, I was already get the answers for 4 questions. Only one more question that I had not decided yet its answer. So, I replayed the recording for the second time. Finally I got the answers for all the questions. When I checked it, I was so happy because it showed the perfect score. 100!
Now I know, that reading the questions before we went through to the listening section is important. We can easily get the information because we already know a little bit imaginary about the content from the questions.
That's all I can share about my experience in this piece of writing. Hope everyone or anynody can find this writing as a useful one.

Here I attached a screen shot of my exercise as a prove.

When Listening isn't Always Easy as Hearing

Listening is not only about hearing some voices, but in listening we need our concentration and other skill to catch the information from the speaker. So, today I've tried to listen some daily conversation on Randall's ESL Cyber Listening Lab (again) from each its level; easy, medium and difficult.

On easy level, I chose College Life. As it name, "easy", it was quite easy to understand. From their conversation I got an interesting points from the girl. She said that she changed her mind to choose computer science than French because she thought that it might be quite hard to find a job with "language". As a student of language, it took my attention and made me a little bit worry about my future job. Sounds funny how a recording affect me, but that's what I feel this time. Lol. By the way, I got 100 for the score of the exercise.

Next, to the medium one. I got a video with two socks doll on it. It's College Roommates. Quite funny. I love their style of speaking. Their accent is unique. To answer the exercise, I need to understand their implied meaning. For example, like when the yellow sock said "...do you called midnight earlier?" So, in here we should know and understand that midnight is at 12:00 am. On the exercise I got 80 score, and I'm not really satisfied with that. So I'm gonna practice my listening activity regularly from now on.

The last is the difficult level,  Easy Pet Care. I know this is truly difficult because on its exercise I got 40 score, and that was bad... I think I should more focus and sharpen my identifying skill. Because as we know, in listening we do need to identify the context of the speech to get the right information. In this recording, the speakers talk really fast with a dog's bark as a background. And yea, to be honest, it was confusing enough for me to get the point of the conversation.

Well, I've tried. Practice make perfect, right?

My Experiences in Listening from Several Sources

Tonight I'm trying to open every links that was given by my Lecturer. I'm trying so hard to understand by listening carefully. So, here are what I feel when listening to them.

In this website, I should listen 3 different dialogue. They are about answering machine, student credit cards    and university degree.
From those 3 titles, I can't get 100 points for the exercises. I got 80 for every exercises. The first dialogue was quiet easy and the next 2 dialogues was a little bit difficult. I mean, the speed of the speaker when speaking. To be honest, I was replay the dialogue again and again. I think I've already replayed them for 5 times or more, because I need to get the direct and indirect information.
Well, I think this is about the way we get the information from the speech by identifying the context.

2. The second website is from Youtube.
By  listening and watching, I think this is way too easy than just listening. Because we can see the expression from the speaker, so it helps us to more understand what the speaker trying to deliver.
This is one of the video that I've already watch: Mountain Swimming - Just Like Learning Engllish. In this video, the speaker showed us that he was trying to swim in a cold mountain lake. It said that not to be afraid to do new things. So, from this video we can conclude that the speaker want us not to be afraid to learn english. Just like when he tried to jump into the cold lake, even he said it was cold but he kept jump and felt the cold water. But after that, he got up and keep going, running.

That's all what I can share about my experiences in listening on my first post. Thank you :)
